Transformation of stars |
|
Nowadays, most of the newcomers enter the world of cinema either from the fashion world, or the families with filmy background. So they are already aware of their bodies and their looks. But what about the stars of Bollywood? Remember Shahrukh Khan in Deewana or Saif Ali Khan in Yeh Dillagi or Akshay Kumar in Khiladi or Kajol in Bekhudi or Rani Mukherjee in Raja Ki ayegi Baraat? Now compare them with their present looks. I know what you are thinking. Yes, they all went through a complete make over sessions by none other than renowned fashion designers and physical trainers to get the present looks. In 80s, 90s and earlier, the stars did not care about their looks that much or should I say they did not care to maintain a parity between their looks and their characters. They themselves instructed their masters for their costumes and make up men for their make ups. The director and producer had nothing to do with their make up, hair do or costumes. But now the perspective has been changed. Nowadays, Bollywood directors are making a huge scope for fashion designers. Earlier, designers and make up persons worked for the star, now they have the ample scope to work for the character rather the star underneath. In past days, it had been a rule to make costumes and make ups according to the actors and actresses concerned. Probably that is reason we say that past Hindi films were ill-decorated. Heroes and heroines did not want to break their mannerism or try something experimental. Now the scenario has been completely changed. Thanks to the fashion designers who have successfully made a strong foothold in Bollywood. Probably, it was Manish Malhotra who first created a revolution in his costumes of Rangeela for Urmila Matondkar. Not only clothing, Urmila had been given a complete make over by Manish. Again he did it for Rani Mukherjee and Kajol for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karishma Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in Dil To Pagal Hai. Not only the ladies, Manish styled heroes like Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan with a complete make over. Following the footsteps of Manish, the new entrant from the fashion world to film world are the designers like Neeta Lulla, Vikram Phadnis, Niharika Khan, Sabbasachi. Even a couple of years before, the stars like Rani, Aishwarya, Kajol, Aamir, Shahrukh, Saif hired their personal fashion designers and make up persons who were supposed to fabricate their dresses for their films as well as for their personal usage. Now this myth seems to be altered as well. Now the directors are interfering in this business. Take a recent example, Madhur Bhandarkar hired Narendra Kumar for his Fashion. Now styling is more about the character and script rather than the star.
