Heroes is one of the few films of Bollywood which resolves around a very good story line, but lacks the finess of perfect cinematic charisma. The story starts with two cool dudes of film institute Saand, played by Sohail Khan and Nawab, played by Vatsal Seth, travelling across North India on their motorcycle to make a movie for their graduation. They have named the project as ‘Why One Shouldn’t Join Defense Forces’. One of their girlfriends helps them by introducing her cousin who is a war journalist, played by Mohnish Behl. He provides them with three letters which he was given by three jawans only to send it to their houses, while interviewing them in the front.  The jawan are Salman Khan, Bobby Deol and Dino Morea. All the three letters were written in 1999, at the time of the Kargil war. In addition to that, the twosome also has to deliver these letters to those three martyred soldiers’ families in course of their journey.

The first family is in Punjab, the second one is in Manali, while the third family is in Leh. They have come across the survivors of the dead soldiers, a Sikh widow, played by Preity Zinta, her husband’s role is played by Salman Khan, who died at the front; the wheelchair-bound ex-pilot, played by Sunny Deol bereaved of the death of his younger brother played by Bobby Deol in the Kargil war; Mithun Chakraborty fails to get to terms with the death of his son, Dino Morea, who also died in the Kargil battle. Samir brings these characters alive. Their sorrows, pains, tears touch us, shatter us.

But where Samir in his effort fails is that he brings down the sufferings of the survivors of the martyred soldiers’ families more than required. His Heroes might be another Border if Samir concentrates a bit on the soldiers and their lives in the front.
