Shahrukh to go to Malacca

It’s time to add another feather on the King Khan’s crown. Shahrukh Khan is going to Malacca this December to receive the highest honour of Malaysia, Datukship which is equivalent to British knighthood. Shahrukh Khan will be presented with the award for the outstanding promotion of the tourism of the country through his films.

The award is in news for the last couple of months. Earlier it was decided that the award ceremony would be held on Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob’s 70th birthday and the award would be presented by the Malacca's head of state, Mohamad Khalil Yaakoob himself.

Earlier the award function was scheduled to be held in November, but it seems that it will be held in December. The Chief Minister said, “Shahrukh has agreed to accept the award and this message was conveyed to the governor's office. He will try to make it in November, however the date of the ceremony is yet to be fixed”.

State Secretary Omar Kaseh tells the media that the Indian superstar will grace the stage to receive the award donning the traditional official black Malay costume and a songkok, traditional name of headgear. Omar Kaseh also adds, “From the beginning (Shah Rukh) had agreed to come to Malacca and gave several dates but the ones given were not suitable for the state as they fell on work days. It will be the first time that an international Bollywood star is given the honour of donning the official Malay costume, which would be viewed by the entire world”.

However Shahrukh’ nomination for the award created much controversies in the media world of Malacca, as some Malaccan rationalists thought that it would be injustice to present the award to a foreigner where there were plenty of deserving local artists. The award function is finally going to occur on December 6.
