Life tale of Parveen Babi

Remember 70s and 80s’s glam doll, Parveen Babi, or should we only remember the tragic end of this beauty? Parveen Babi reached the zenith of her career in early 70s. She was known as the hot, glamorous sex symbol of then time. She gave box office hits like Deewar, Namak Halaal, Amar Akbar Anthony and Shaan. Be it a main stream commercial film or an offbeat film like Vinod Pandey's Yeh Nazdeekiyan, Babi was equally vibrant. She was often compared to her contemporary actress Zinat Aman in her sex appeal.

She was open and careless about her personal affairs. She never married and was always outspoken about her relationship with married men. She used to lead a bohemian life, full of drugs, late night parties, and open relationships. She was never ever shy about her personal affairs. She had love affairs with director Mahesh Bhatt, actors Kabir Bedi, and Danny Denzongpa. But after her break up with Danny Denzongpa, she seemed to be mentally finished. Many of us failed to make out the simple conservative girl underneath the glamours rebellious actress. Shattered and shaken Babi continues with her work. But destiny had some other plans for her. During the shoot of Shaan, she had an attack of schizophrenia, a disease in which men think that they world be killed by someone near to their heart. She went to New York and there she met with the spiritual philosopher U. G. Krishnamurti. She returned to Mumbai in 1992. But the diva Parveen Babi was lost in an overweight unsocial lady. She confined herself in her own world and breaks off all relationship with Bollywood. She also became suspicious on everybody around him. She accused Mr Amithabh Bachachan for plotting against her and for planning to murder her. In the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, She claimed that she had evidence to show to the court, but she did not turn up in the court. She pleaded later that she could not go outside her home as she was afraid of being killed. Mahesh Bhatt made three films on his and Babi’s relationship. The first one is Arth, which stars Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil, the second film is Phir Teri Kahani Yaad ayi, which stars Puja Bhatt and Rahul Roy, and the third one is Woh Lamhe, Shiney Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut. Mahesh himself admitted that Woh Lamhe was the real story of Babi and Mahesh.

Babi also suffered from acute diabetes. She was found daed in her own apartment on 20th January 2005. Her unearthly body is sleeping next to her mother at Santa Cruz. Whatever her life story and life mystery may be, we still remember her as the style diva, the sex symbol of 70s and 80s. We all love you Parveen.
