Fashion gets dumped

After much controversy, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion has been released last Wednesday in the Diwali week. It seems that after release, Fashion is bound to face some more controversies. Fashion is a realistic film which is based on the dark side of the glamorous fashion world. Three protagonists of the film, played by Priyanka Chopra , Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse, have faced some controversies. Priyanka Chopra’s story tells us how a small town girl comes up to Mumbai to be a super model and how she gets dumped by the fashion agencies after using and exploiting her. Kangana Ranaut’s story resemblances that of the ‘Girl interrupted’, a Delhi-based ex-super model Geetangali Nagpal, who lost her mental stability for excessive drug snorting. Mugdha Godse is playing the character of a struggling model, who at last marries a gay designer for survival in this industry.

On the other hand, the real life fashion designers and model are of opinion that Madhur distorted the reality of fashion industry. They told that the aforementioned events are not essentially to be happened in their industry.  Men with homosexual tendencies and dumping can be seen in any industry. It would be very wrong from Madhur’s side to portray only ugly things of fashion industry. This might influence people not to send their children in fashion world.

Designer Rina Dhaka tells, ‘The angle of the movie is exaggerated and is not relevant. I am in this profession for the past 20 years and I have not seen any exploitation. The catwalk on the ramp requires models to stay fit. They need to remain fit to walk on the ramp. If they indulge in drugs, they won't be able to walk.’ Designer Tarun Tahiliani tells a news agency that he is afraid that this film might affect the middle class and ‘they would probably not send their girls for modeling after seeing the movie’.
