B.R Chopra, an end of an era |
|
B.R Chopra, the great director and producer breathed his last on 5th November, yesterday at the age of 94. B.R. Chopra completed his master degree from Lahore University in English Literature. He migrated to Mumbai only after India’s independence in the year of 1947. His brother Yash Chopra is another giant film maker of Bollywood. He made his directorial debut in Afsana in the year of 1951 with Ashok Kumar in a double role. Afsana was a hit. In the year of 1955, he set in his own film production company in the name of B.R. Films. His first film as a producer was Naya Daur in the year of 1957, and it was a huge hit. Literally, he brought a new life to Indian Cinema with his Naya Daur when Indian Cinema was still in nascent stage. His production house had produced a number of timeless classics like Nikaah, Insaaf Ka Tarazoo, Gumrah, Dhund, Humraz, Waqt, Ittefaq and Dhool Ka Phool. Probably, he is the inventor of mega serials. B.R Chopra made first mega serial Mahabharat for television in 90s. In the year of 1988, he was awarded with Dadasahaeb Phalke Award. He always believed that the rise of money and glamour had lessened the image of Indian film Industry gradually. So he stopped making films and so was his B.R. Films. His son Ravi Chopra revived his production house B.R Films with Baghban and Baabul. We hope his legacy will be being carried forward to future days.
