Law cannot be sacrificed (06-08-2008) |

This is in no way a new concept. To be precise there are ample references in the history when the smaller interest or portions are sacrificed for the bigger one. It is not only confined within the limits of society but also is ostensibly visible in the political arena. Take for instance the incident of Ghatotkach in Mahabharata. Lord Krishna sacrificed such a monstrous and combative warrior for the sake of Arjuna. Even in the revolutionary struggles in the Indian history there are ample incidents when the revolutionaries sacrificed themselves to save his/her comrades or for the sake of the nation. We know that the condition of the Niketa couple is pathetic and can\'t be soothed. This is indeed a moment when the concerned family reaches the depths of despair and can find their continued existence as baseless. However, there are also people who prefer to castigate this judgment of the Hon\'ble Bombay High Court as unjustified. In this situation we would like to know humbly what should have been done else! If the Niketa family had been permitted to abort their 25-weekold foetus with a complete congenital heart blockage and malpositioned arteries, it would have been a dangerous precedent! One single verdict would have trampled the laws, which the Indian society eulogies till now and left a dangerous specimen for the posterity to follow. Bear in mind that the law would have permitted to abort which indicates forceful termination of an impeccant life. This would have given the sinewy sectors of the society an easy hand to usurp power and exploit the loopholes of the new legislation. The society would have become the most vulnerable entity. We are congenial for the clean-handed Niketa family but are against any capricious ploy with existing law. Posted by subhasis on Wednesday Aug 06 reply Comments |
