Immoral politics have sovereign power (20-07-08) |

The preponderance of market economy in the realm of India has converted the whole of parliamentary system into a true market. There is no doubt that a new phenomenon has emerged in the political system of India and also among the political parities. It is shamelessness! In these 60 years of Indian parliamentary democracy there had been several incidents when governments were on the verge of collapse. But never the notion of horse-trading, like that of the present time, was visible. There were certainly some dealings and calculations that saved the governments from the eventual crash but all happened behind the curtain. On the contrary, due to the lure of power, nowadays political parties of both the government and opposition have become so adamant that they are trying to woo others explicitly. For this sole reason even tainted and convicted MPs are being invited to the center. The latest of this is the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren who has in his pocket five MPs in the Parliament. This very person was found guilty of murder in the twelve year old case of the kidnapping and murder of his former personal secretary Shashinath Jha and for that had to resign from the post of Union Minister for Coal in the current UPA government. Well, he should have been shunned on the ground of morality. But who cares? Even the custodians of Hindutva and the NDA camp are very busy for holding various meetings with him, since can make a crucial difference in the whole drama. For this the request of the MDMK chief Vaiko to the Speaker to indispose two rebel MPs L Ganeshan and Ramachandran seems to be another humorous anecdote. Whatever may be the result it will be in accordance with the democratic norms. But can the political parties talk of morality any more? Time has come for us to decide.
