End of amity? (20-07-08) |

What a friendship it was! What an animus it is! We are talking of the present and gradually worsening relationship of Prakash Karat and his second in command, Sitaram Yechury. Once upon a time the friendship between the two was regarded as an example. For which the present fall out is quite bitter to see. But what can be the most possible reason? In the history of CPI (M) such friendship is not new since the relationship between Jyoti Basu and Saroj Mukherjee of the Bengal unit was also quite commendable and that was intact till Mukherjee’s death. Then? To the inner sources, the diverse standpoints happen to be the main reason and the most serious has been the issue of dealing with the UPA government. While to some, Sitaram being the representative of the Bengal unit in both parliamentary and party sectors is pragmatic, Karat of the south lobby prefers to cling to the ideology. Or else why Sitaram was sent to a to London at the time of crawfishing out of the government? It seems from both the statements and activities of Yechury that, with the passing of days, he is gradually realizing the importance of democratic set up in a country like India and for that is no more interested with his own controversial slogan of “tala todo, anaj banto, (break the locks and distribute food grains).” The problem is this thought is still not present in Prakash Karat who, perhaps, wanted to gamble in a better way through the sudden withdrawal. But the defiance of the Speaker Somnath Chatterjee against the diktat has exacerbated the whole issue making the former comrades brandishing swords in party meetings. But never try to equate this with the difference between Lenin and Trotsky! It was on the basis of philosophy and leading the proletariat for emancipation from exploitation. This, on the contrary, has an aroma of vested interest. Posted by subhasis on Saturday Jul 19 reply Comments |
