CPI (M) begins to end (20-07-08)

There is no need of hundreds of reasons as only one reason may bring the desired downfall of any provided it is authentic. We have heard this for long but are experiencing nowadays through the ongoing drama in the closed quarters of CPI (M). Truly speaking the way the image of the party has been tarnished over the resignation of Somnath Chatterjee is unimaginable and has put the entire party in a bad light. It is true that there have always been differences within the CPI (M) over diverse issues but they do subside with the passing of days and the intervention of the leadership.  However the present one seems to be more different than conceived.

Now the question remains what can the perplexed CPI (M) do? It can follow the party constitution straightforwardly and act according to it. But the Speaker is no trivial individual who can be admonished so easily even by the party leadership.  What is more the questions his defiant stand has brought to the fore remain unanswered. These questions are in no way the expression of an individual’s thought only but carry along with it the agony of the rank and file over the whole development.

Moreover since a considerable section of the state leadership is favoring Chatterjee the issue has become more like east vs. south. But what has made the issue even more complicated is the statement of Sitaram Yechury. While many have considered it as a public apology on behalf of the leadership to many it is the expression of the party leadership’s commitment to the ideology.

Whatever it is this is perhaps the commencement of the party’s end. The days of any political party get numbered whenever it moves back from the core philosophy. The same is with the CPI (M).
