SIDDHIVINAYAK TEMPLE |

SIDDHIVINAYAK TEMPLE If any such idea like shifting of Siddhivinayak Temple as put by the Mumbai High Court (as per media-reports) would have emerged from any individual or political personality, perhaps a thunderstorm would have emerged with people and political parties having come down on streets in protest. Temples are worship-places concerning people’s faith. If shifting of Temple would have been a solution, Ayodhya dispute would have been settled much before. It is also true that some elements misuse religious sentiments by erecting worship-places as encroachments on public land including roads and footpaths. There are cases where devotees forcefully block roads and footpaths for no reason in name of religious freedom or violate Court’s instructions for use of loud-speakers. All such cases of misuse of religious freedom can be witnessed in historical Chandni Chowk of Delhi with authorities having closed eyes in fear. However a distinction must be made in regard to religious structures erected new and ancient ones. Since Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai is an ancient temple known for devotees’ strong faith in it, public or even those filing writ in Mumbai High Court against the newly constructed protection-wall for the Temple may reject any such idea of shifting the Temple elsewhere. It may be recalled that highly-congested area surrounding Golden Temple in Amritsar was instead cleared rather than even considering any idea of shifting the world-renowned religious place.
