COIN MELTING & SHORTAGE











It refers to shortage of coins in some parts of the country reportedly due to melting of coins as metal-value of coins of certain denominations exceeds their face-values. Apart from switching over to steel-coins, their sizes can now be reduced because coins of 10 or 25 paise practically losing worth to be minted any more. It may be recalled that size of present 10-paise coins was likewise reduced to that of earlier 1-piase coins because of their withdrawal from circulation after losing worth to be minted.
