IPL aspires for Partnership

In the international scenario the saga of brotherhood has been as old as the human civilization itself. In each and every sphere of life this has been the legacy of centuries that has also witnessed spontaneous development resulting into the benefits of the participating countries, not to speak of the common men. On the other hand with the notion of globalization and also ‘global village’ getting more sway this idea of fraternity is getting wider recognition. Now the question remains, if this can be viewed in the sphere of international business and also politics, how can the saga of sports be left behind? But it is necessary for someone to come forward and take necessary steps to turn this into a reality. Well, in this regard the concerned authority of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has pondered over for a number of days, and has decided to move forward. The latest move of the IPL board, as has been found, is to forge a novel partnership with the English premier league. If truth be told the entire step has been taken with one intention, to enable the celebrated players of England to partake in the impending Indian title fight. This certainly can be regarded as a bold approach and has already created a history, since there has never been any such approach from the diffident settings of the Indian sub-continent. However, there are also some hidden truths. The IPL in all ways want to appoint the best players of England whose addition will definitely glorify of the championship. Nevertheless, the biggest concern is the collision of specific time periods of both IPL and the English League that may hamper India’s escalating interest. It should be noted, that by this time both of England and Wales Cricket Boards have banished all players contracted to it from playing in the IPL, terming the tenure of the Indian championship - running for six weeks from the second half of April – will clash with the English domestic season. Well, to wear off this unholy development the IPL in all ways is trying to negotiate. But it must be said that before the strong commercial interests of England the chance of the viability of this newly found brotherhood looks sluggish.   read more

Disastrous Destiny of Indian Hockey Introduced

They were indeed days of glory when India in the international sports arena was an acclaimed entity with lots of prospects. Though the country was under a colonial domination still by virtue of its oraganizational excellence based on personal skills used to fly high its banner of triumphs. Not only in any particular sport, but in many segments it showed its aptitude. You can take as many you want like hockey, soccer and cricket in the later stages, in each and every aspect it diplayed its brilliance. However, among them the most estimable position was owned by hockey, for its international exploits with consummate dominance. Who can ever forget the glorius past of the Indian hockey that from the beginning has been designated as the most awful maestro of the game? It is the country which in its golden era, from the beginning at the Amsterdam Olympics, 1928 to Melbourne Olympics, 1956 had been the proud winner of six consecutive Olympics gold medals. Other than this it also bagged 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in Olympic Hockey. No other country has neither achieved nor even dared to touch this milestone. On the contrary, the situaion is not only discouraging but also appalling at present, since the country apart from losing its past glories has failed to even qualify this year. The final consequnce of poor preparation, mismanagement and players' lack of enthusiasm has come to the fore with its failure to secure an Olympic berth. The prestige that has been with the Indian hockey at a stretch has been shattered, thanks to the apathy of the government and the amateurish approaches of the IHF. The moment the decisive match ended with India being thrashed by Great Britain in the pre-Olympic Hockey qualifier final the message was clear. It was the doomsday and the termination of a glorious era due to the despicable successors of the illustrious predecessors. None knows whether India can ever overcome its perennial crisis of inefficiency, but definitely the rot has set in.   read more

Olympic Torch raising Tension in India

The Beijing Olympic 2008 will be remembered for long as a part of history for the most political reasons since in the history barring very few incidents it has never dared to intrude in this sphere. On the contrary the Olympic 2008 has been volatile from the very beginning due to its venue Beijing that has been sternly handling the issue of Tibet for decades at a stretch. This has aggravated much more due the recent Chinese endeavor to trounce the Tibetans’ frustration in the most brutal way, if not more. However, the entire story, much common to the ghastly happenings of TienanMen Square in the late 80s has not been accepted meekly and far-flung protests in the international arena has been witnessed. The most evident representations of these have been the ways by which the protesters tried to mar the Olympic torch parade in the major cities of the globe. The way in which the movement was directed to quell the entire parade, especially in Paris and London, deserves special mention. Now, the same can be in India also due to the heavy presence of Tibetans in the country, advocated by many independent yet aggressive groups raising voices against gross human rights violations in China. In India, already scores of people destined to participate in the parade have decided to stay away from the raging controversies, citing multifarious reasons. However, it is certain that the people’s struggle has also induced them to save their skin, and also kith and kin. But along with this it has also brought to the fore the contestation over the inclusion of film celebrities in the entire episode. Sportspersons from all quarters, mostly renowned athletes have lodged strong protests over this very publicity stunt. To their consideration the athletes of distinguished careers along with budding sportspersons should participate in the torch relay. Nevertheless, the dissension is increasing by leaps and bounds with the passing of each day, but the government like many other issues has proved to be hesitant and impuissant to come out with any decisive decision.   read more

ICL to Sparkle with New Uniform Designs

What is the essence of uniform? What does it speak in the true sense? It is true there have been scores of opinions over this and almost all of them opine in different tunes. If truth be told, there is no doubt, each has his respective outlook over the same aspect that results into mere contradictions. Now if these are designed by the fashion gurus will there be any such incongruity? Of course there will be, since the inherent philosophy of the concerned individual or organization will speak above all, at the end of the day, giving rise to various apprehensions. Now, if this is the reality, we will perhaps perceive a new form of uniforms and unique designs in the coming days. How can it be? It can be in the form of the unique fabrication of designs in the uniforms of Ahmedabad Rockets and Lahore Badshahs, the two recently added teams in the Indian Cricket League (ICL). The very contract has been bagged by the esteemed designers 'Shantanu and Nikhil’, a group that started its venture in 1999 but and have already been acclaimed for rendering new touches to the dress designs of Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Leander Peas, Amitabh Bachchan and others. The question remains what more can be added to the uniforms of cricket teams! Well, this if asked to the fashion designers could draw good thrash. Since there is no dearth in the worthy application of designs, the need is only to have a proper and most astute sense of utilization at best. It is to be born in mind that the uniform of a team does reflect the inherent philosophy and spirit. For this the essential graphics and also colors are based on the motif of the squad with a sound intention to display it in the global spectrum. As has been found different touches shall be applied to the two teams, different in all senses. While for the Lahore Badhshahs the center design will be the motif of the sword, the Ahmedabad Rockets will have specific designs exhibiting power and energy, in accordance with the name of the team. Hopefully the ardent endeavor will portray ICL in a new light and will intensify the mass rabidity that has been strikingly missing in the tournament.   read more

Tension Looms Large

Can you ever memorize any incident with the absence of any mix-up? Perhaps not! If you ask me I shall also sing in the same tune, since I cannot remember any such incident. Whether it is the World Up Soccer or Olympics or even International Table Tennis the same saga persists almost everywhere making the organizers spend sleepless nights. Now there are several subjects on whom organizations and also individuals differ and even hold contradictory views, but that in no say should enter into any cacophony followed by aspersions. Well, whatever the good desires may be, on the contrary in most occasions these two very aspects are witnessed between the rival groups being enough to jeopardize the entirety. The same has also been witnessed in the, alleged, most sensational event of this decade, the IPL or the Indian Premiere League. The rot has set in due to the obstinate stance of the most prominent television channels gathered under a single banner, stated by some close quarters of the concerned industry. What is more they have threatened to carry on their boycotts till their demands are met. This has come just shortly after the IPL has inhibited all tensions over a number of vital issues with the print media. At this juncture this new defiance has certainly prolonged the climate of uncertainties over the entire event. The disgruntled television channels under the auspices of News Broadcasters Association has protested in the most stringent way citing their grievances over the exclusive use rights given to Sony Network and the refusal of the IPL to have a discussion with various eminent private players over this. The situation has gone out of the frying pan into the fire in regard to the prolific agreement of the IPL with the INS (Indian Newspaper Society) on the media accreditation. It may be the exclusion of several controversial conditions included hitherto, like the cancellation of media accreditation on failing to upload photographs taken from the IPL website by the newspapers and agencies, has perhaps boosted the television channels to outcry. May be this crisis will also be solved by the astute prudence of the IPL. But tension is certainly looming large on the entire prospect.   read more
