Akky’s new Oscar Connection

Akshay Kumar replaces Big B in Deepa Mehta’s upcoming film ‘Komagata Maru’. Though Big B was the original choice for the role, but the co-financier of the film the Canadian government resisted Deepa to cast Amitabh Bachchan in the role of the protagonist of the film. According to the Canadian government, the lead role has to be portrayed by a Canadian citizen. As Big B does not fulfill the aforementioned criteria for the role of Gurdit Singh, the protagonist of ‘Komagata Maru’, Akshay Kumar, who has the status of a permanent resident of Canada, has been chosen for the role. On Akshay’s part, the superstar is very much excited on being cast in an Oscar nominated director’s film.

The film will be centering on Gurdit Singh, a brave freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for his motherland. Setting on the background of Canada around the year of 1914, it is a tale of those Indians, who fled India to Canada to avoiding persecution. The ship ‘Komagata Maru’ carrying the Indians, failed to enter Canada and after a couple of month’s legal battle, forced to return to the shore of India. On returning home, they were welcomed by bullets of the British. The tragic voyage was led by Gurdit Singh, the role Akky will portray. The leading actor of the industry is elated on being offered with such a brave role and also happy to play a Sikh again after ‘Singh is Kingg’.
