Apparently the title of Shona Urvashi’s second film ‘Saas Bahu Aur Sensex’ seems to be deceptive, as the flick has nothing to do with ‘Saas’ and ‘Bahu’, though it resolves around the stock market. But the title appears as the apt one only after viewing this film. Instead of indulging in saas-bahu daily soaps, all the house wives here go out in search for their fortunes in stock exchange. Contradiction between the title and characteristics makes the title a unique one.

The story sets in the backdrop of Mumbai. It mainly proceeds with two main plots. Binita Sen, played by Kiron Kher, a divorcee from Kolkata, comes to Mumbai with his daughter Nitya Sen, played by Tanushree Dutta. They move in a housing complex, where Binita Sen forms a small kitty party group in the complex. Binita Sen comes across a Parsi stock broker Feroz Sethna, portrayed by Farooq Sheikh, and gives him the responsibility to sell some old shares. Feroz Sethna guides her in her financial affairs, which prompts other members of the kitty party group to show a huge interest in the numbers of stock market and shares. A parallel theme of a love-triangle between Nitya Sen, Ritesh (a neighbour), and Kirti played by Masumeh Makhija, thickens as the story proceeds towards the climax.

As the fluctuating stock exchange, the story goes through a number of ups and downs before reaching its acme. Other subplots resolve around the themes of a bunch of middle aged women making fortunes out of shares on the one hand, and a bitchy love triangle on the other.

Farooq Sheikh is at his best to portray a Parsi stock broker. Kiron Kher, Ankur

Khanna, and Tanushree Dutta justify their roles in the film. In addition, the presence of Sharon Prabhakar and Lillette Dubey add a flavour of comedy in it. But had the director, Shona Urvashi cut a few minutes from the duration of the film, it would become more acceptable to the viewers.
