President Patil condoles passing away of Sri Satya Sai Baba

Port Louis Mauritius, Apr 24ANI: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today condoled the passing away of prominent religious leader Sri Satya Sai Baba. In a condolence message from Mauritius, where she arrived today on a five-day state visit, the President said: "Sri Sathya Sai Baba was known for his philanthropic and developmental activities, including irrigations projects, construction of schools and hospitals." "He was the true advocate of women's empowerment. His commitment to their upliftment was evident when he opened a college for women and other educational institutions. The divine soul shall always guide and inspire us to work for the progress of the country and the welfare of the poorest sections of society and women," she added. Sathya Sai Baba, who was admitted to the super-speciality hospital at Prashantigram at Puttaparthi on March 28, following respiration-related problems, passed away at around .40 a.m. today due to cardio-respiratory failure. He was 85. His body will be kept at the Sai Kulwant Hall for two days for people to pay their homage to the spiritual guru. ANI
