New York, Apr 23 ANI: A maternity and breastfeeding store in the US is offering a special discount exclusively for same-sex moms. According to Brooklyn-based blog Brokelyn, the store located on the corner of 6th Ave. and Union St., offers same-sex moms an additional 10 percent off their total purchase. The store's owner, Karen Paperno, said she has been offering the discount for about three months, and that the discount is her way of acknowledging how tough it is for two moms to raise a child. "My heart goes out to lesbian moms. Women still only make 77 cents on the dollar, compared to men. Financially, women have a much harder time of it," the New York Daily News quoted Paperno as saying. Paperno said she doesn't require any proof that a customer is indeed gay. While a few people have looked "questioningly" at the placard advertising the unique discount, Paperno says the overall response to the lesbians-only promo is positive. "People are tickled by it. And I love that response more than anything. It's fun," she said. While some people may not share Paperno's sense of humour, she says her "girl's club" discount is one of the perks of running her own store. "It's not politically correct, but neither am I. Never have been, never will be. This is my store, and I can choose to do this discount for the people who need it most," Paperno acknowledges with a laugh.
