Need to Value Human Dignity |

There are several countries and also cities through the length and breadth of the world, but each has its own appearance and also way of looking at things. For instance, there is a great difference between the prosperous cities of the West and that of the impoverished part of the world. When the earliest Communist bloc was at the helm of affairs in the international scenario there used to be a striking difference between their countries and cities and that of the Capitalist bloc. But in its absence there is no dearth of comparison and that place has been taken by the countries and cities of the third world. Now what is known as the third world? The term "Third World" was invented and used for the first time by the French demographer Alfred Sauvy in the year 1952. Although it had political connotations at that time, it now simply refers to underdeveloped countries. It is typically thought to signify poverty more than anything else, though there should also be the reference of the presence of subtle cultures in these countries. There is also the presence of modern infrastructures in these countries and cities though ill developed and the worsening economic situation is clearly evident from their degradations. There happens to be the striking absence of basic amenities, and this often leads to the emergence of strife between the common people and the government forces. For instance, in Ecuador once it was a common practice for the residents to use buckets of water to take a shower, because at that time the cities didn't have running water in all parts. However, even thirty years later, there still isn't running water in many towns. What does this speak for or signify? It does speak of the presence of an inhuman, pitiable culture belittling the dignity of human beings to the greatest extent. To lessen this difference between cities there is a need for the governments to give highest value to the human dignity. Posted by subhasis on Monday Mar 24 reply Comments |
