Finest hour of a trounced nationality (29-07-2008) |

The last millennia had been disastrous for the whole of india. It was marked by the initiation of onslaughts by hordes of alien jingoists and later by the belligerent Mogul. These inavasions consecutively impacted on the psyche of the nation and gradually transformed it from victor to the vanquished. The last nail in the coffin was of the British suzerainty that extirpated the hope of freedom kindled for a very brief period due to the declivity of Moguls. All these suppressions, victimizations and down plays, as a reaction, led to the growth of a subconscious urge of freedom and triumphalism in the global spectrum among indians. The national independence though brought forth a new hour of light and freedom, but failed calamitously to enable the Indians experience the essence of an omnipotent power. This was joined by the the dark decades of inordinate population growth, edging economic growth and unmalleable poverty . Now, if anyone terms this urge as unnatural and advocates suppression, he is badly mistaken. This is nothing new and has already affected various countries worldwide. Nevertheless the ongoing trenchant expression among Indians is certainly new. But in no way one can scorn this. Bear in mind that this suppressed urge of liberation from all social ailments and development is the pillar of all ideologies reigning hitherto. Now, if you are a student of history or having an interest in the saga of international politics, you can surely remember the dark days that dominated Russia in the final years of Czar Nicholas II or of Germany after the Treaty of Versailles. The population of both countries were burining out of despair. The Bolsheviks and Nazis merely filled the vaccum and continued the steam roller of nationalism in a new manner. They were looked up to as demi gods. In the Indian scenario there has been no such leader in the independent era who could show the way to achieve the plain of global dominance. This is the finest hour when India can at least endeavor to attain that alleged “unattainable” status. The urban India seems to be gloating for that dream and the nuclear agreement to them is the only maneuver to succeed. This is not unusual but an expression of nationalism, especially of a trounced nationality of centuries. Posted by subhasis on Tuesday Jul 29 reply Comments |
