Rooney's Twitter row fan says "fat whore" comment was a 'joke'

London, May 20 ANI: A teen Liverpool fan who sparked off a Twitter spat with England and Manchester United star striker Wayne Rooney has shut down his Twitter account and called his comments against the footballer 'a joke' after receiving threats and abuse from United fans. Nineteen-year-old Sam Oldham had called Rooney a "fat whore". "Rooney ya fat whore ill smash ya head in with a pitchin wedge an bury ya with a ballast fork ya fat ugly lil n***e," Oldham wrote on the social networking site. Rooney, however, challenged him to a face-to-face showdown at United's training ground in which he vowed to "put u asleep within 10 seconds u little girl". Oldham changed his statement today saying it was a joke. "It was really, honestly a joke. I was never meant to go that far. I joked that I'd be after him in my twin turbo Nissan Micra. There's no such car. I never thought anyone would take it seriously," he said. Meanwhile, Rooney's spokesman Ian Monk said the footballer accepted the apology, and did not take the comments seriously. "Wayne appreciates the apology but he never thought it was ever more than banter,'' he said. ANI
