UK developing cyber-weapons programme to counter security threat

London, May 31 ANI: The United Kingdom is developing a cyber space programme to help counter a threat to national security from cyberspace. Britain's armed forces minister Nick Harvey has officially acknowledged the programme. He said cyberweapons would not replace traditional weapons but admitted that the programme is 'an integral part of the country's armoury'. The authorities have not yet revealed the nature of weapons being developed to curb the menace, The Guardian reports. Britain's Cabinet Office and Cyberspace Security Operations Centre at Government Communication Headquarters have taken the initiative to launch the programme with inputs from defence ministry. The defence ministry recently appointed General Jonathan to head a defence cyber-operations group. Whitehall officials had earlier stressed the need for beefing up security of cyberspace operations in the wake of discovery of Stuxnet virus, which disrupted the Iran's uranium enrichment programme.
