PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt defends Afridi's removal from captaincy

Karachi, May 28ANI: The Pakistan Cricket Board PCB chairman, Ijaz Butt, has defended the removal of Shahid Afridi as captain, and said that he will reveal the reasons at a later date. "We had very solid reasons to remove Afridi and I will reveal them when the time is right. We haven't taken this action without any reasons", Butt said. He indicated that there had been a breach of discipline on Afridi's part, but whether he was referring to the comments Afridi made on his return or separate incidents on tour is unclear. He said he had received the on-tour management report and a clearer picture would emerge after the Ireland series. "We know Afridi won two series and that is why we didn't act then during the tour. We couldn't do anything more during that tour. Right now anything more I say will cause more tensions. Everything will come to light soon", The Daily Times quoted Butt, as saying. The PCB had earlier removed Afridi from the captaincy in one-day international matches. Though it did not give any official reason for his removal, speculation is rife that he was removed over his differences with the team coach Waqar Younis. Subsequently Afridi pulled out of the two one-day matches against Ireland citing his father's illness. ANI
