Discrepancies galore in different official versions of Karachi naval base attack |

Karachi, May 24ANI: Severe contradictions have emerged with regard to the Pakistani Taliban attack on Karachi's Mehran Naval Station. Taliban terrorists had entered PNS Mehran on Sunday night, destroying two US-supplied maritime surveillance aircraft and killing ten military personnel during their 17-hour siege of the naval air base. The differences found in the statements of Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Naval Chief Noman Bashir and the FIR lodged by the Navy have complicated the matter, Geo News reports. According to police, an FIR has been registered under the Explosives and Terrorism Act in Shahra-e-Faisal Police Station, where Lieutenant Irfan Asghar, who was on the night duty when the base was attacked, said that 10-12 terrorists had attacked the naval station. But in a press briefing about the operation against the terrorists, Malik stated that there were four to six militants who attacked the base. "There are believed to have been four to six terrorists. Four are confirmed dead. Two are suspected to have run away," he said. On the other hand, the Naval Chief also verified the number of dead militants, but could not confirm about the number of escaped militants. According to the police, evidence has been found that there were four terrorists involved in the attack, and they were carrying suicide jackets and other explosives.
