Concerns over CA chief Sutherland's presence during independent review interviews

Melbourne, May 22ANI: Interviewees fronting the independent review into the Australian cricket, including top cricketers, are being asked to give their frank assessment of all aspects of the game with Cricket Australia CA chief executive James Sutherland sitting in the room. According to The Herald Sun, some people the panel has interviewed are concerned their ability to speak openly about the game's administration has been compromised by Sutherland's presence. One insider said that it was unnerving given that the players' contracts for the next 12 months had not been finalized. However, CA spokesman Peter Young said that Sutherland had no input into the recommendations to be made by the Don Argus-led panel and if interviewees did not want him in the room they could request him to leave. "James is the ex-officio non-voting secretary. He's a facilitator and co-ordinator of the process on behalf of the panel. He sits in on the interviews, but it is made clear to interviewees that, if they prefer him not to, then he won't," Young said. "There is a concern that we get full, frank and fearless feedback and input from across Australian cricket and it is made clear to people that, if for any reason you prefer James not to be there, he will absent himself," he added. The panel has been asked to present the review into the game's governance at CA's annual general meeting in October. ANI
