William and Kate did not take their wedding seriously, says Brit actor

London, May 22 ANI: A leading actor in Britain has accused Prince William and Kate of being too relaxed on the day of their wedding, thereby undermining the grandeur of the event. Simon Callow, 61, who was awarded a CBE by the Queen for services to acting in 1999, launched the extraordinary attack on the couple while promoting his latest play, 'Being Shakespeare'. "I was struck by the extreme relaxation of the protagonists, and that was kind of amazing, but it was a little disappointing too, I thought, because it was such an epic event yet they looked as if they were in their own front room. I saw them lolling around a bit on their seats and making little jokes and all the rest of it," the Daily Express quoted Callow as saying. "Clearly, the contrast between them and Charles and Diana was all to their advantage, and yet if these events are to be held and the taxpayers pay a great deal of money for them and they are significant meaningful spectacles of some kind or another, it would be kind of nice if the participants seemed to have some sense of the grandeur of the event. Callow admitted that his views were "completely out of step with everybody else" who praised the couple for appearing down-to-earth. He explained that he was writing a book about Charles Dickens that day and, even if he hadn't been working, would not have watched it on television anyway. "It didn't interest me very much, and it was bewildering to me how excited people were about it," he added. ANI
