Nainital, May 22ANI: Concerned with the growing numbers of dogs in the region, animal welfare organizations have initiated a sterilization campaign in Uttarakhand's Nainital district. The organizations are being assisted by a team of experts, aided by veterinary experts from New Delhi. "There has been a tremendous increase in the population of dogs in the past few years. Off late, I have observed that the Municipality Corporation has been killing stray dogs. This is why, we have made an attempt to control this phenomenon through medical means," said Kamini Kashyap, an organiser of the camp. Overpopulation of street dogs increases the risk of diseases among human beings. A dog bite can even cause diseases like Rabies and Dementia. Vijay Kumar, a doctor, explained the need and importance of sterilization. "Our main motto behind the sterilization of dogs is animal birth control and to bring awareness among people regarding the same," Kumar said. Several activists feel that similar initiatives must also be staged at the national level to fully resolve the issue across India. ANI Posted by aniin on Tuesday May 24 reply Comments |
