UPA govt. determined to punish people involved in various scams: PM

New Delhi, May 22ANI: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Sunday said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance UPA is determined to punish people who are involved in various scams and promised to take steps to prevent them in future for political stability. Dr. Singh said this during a function to celebrate the second anniversary of the UPA-II government in New Delhi. The Prime Minister had invited all the parliamentarians of the UPA for a dinner at his residence. He has also invited the prominent leaders of all the political parties who have extended support to the UPA. He said that the developments have caused many concerned citizens to worry about the state of governance and the pervasiveness of corruption. "In the past several months a conjunction of several developments relating to 2G spectrum allocation, procurement and contracting issues related to the Commonwealth Games, and similar issues in state governments have brought public focus on the issue of corruption in public life," Dr. Singh said. "These are legitimate concerns and the UPA government is determined to take corrective action. The due processes of law are already in motion. We are taking steps to prevent such developments in future and reduce discretionary and arbitrary use of power by public officials," he added. ANI
