SPO16SportsTendulkar happy to score his 40th
Test centuryNagpur,
Nov 6
IANS Sachin
Tendulkar after scoring his 40th Test century was happy that he could get to the milestone when the
team needed.Tendulkar's 109 came at a
time when
India were struggling at 116 for three against
Australia in the fourth and last Test here. And with V.V.S. Laxman 64 he added 146 runs for the fourth wicket as India piled up 311 for five at the Vidarbha
Cricket Association VCA Stadium."I am so happy to score a century after a pretty
long time. It feels good to have done it after a long gap and at a time when the side sorely needed it," Tendulkar
said. The century was third for Tendulkar in the calender year. The earlier two also came against Australia in the series Down-Under earlier this year."I think I performed consistently well in between then and now, putting up good scores though the 100-mark eluded me several times," he said.Tendulkar also looked worried as India's five
wickets were down."If we had been three-down at stumps, it would be
just fine, but losing five wickets on the first day just cannot mean we are in a comfortable situation," he said.He also had a word of praise for
Indian debutant Murali Vijay, who replaced banned Gautam Gambhir, showing rare poise against the giants. --Indo-

planning to sue the playerKarachi,
Nov 5
IANS Hours after Pakistani

Indian Cricket League ICL in Delhi, the
Pakistan Cricket Board PCB banned him from playing for the
country and is preparing to sue him.Zakir Khan, PCB's

legal battle with the ICL."Our
policy towards the ICL is clear. Any players signing up with the league will be banned from playing for
Pakistan and Yousuf is no exception," Zakir told IANS.Yousuf joined the ICL last year after being overlooked by Pakistan for the inaugural
World Twenty20 Championship in
South Africa in September. But former PCB

Indian Premier League IPL.But the ICL sued Yousuf over the u-turn and it was the PCB that fought the player's case. However, Yousuf has again fallen out with the PCB and rejoined ICL.Zakir Khan said the board has spent a substantial amount on Yousuf's tiff with the ICL and now the batsman will have to pay up that amount or
face the consequences.He refrained from

senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma, who is contesting from Dantewada in Chhattisgarh, for allegedly offering cash for votes for the Nov 14 polls. Karma denied bribing voters, saying he was only "paying people" hired for
election work. The FIR was lodged at Dantewada
police station on the
instruction of
district election officer S.P. Sori."We have taken a suo motu cognizance of a
media report that he tried to bribe some voters. The FIR has been registered under Section 171d of the
Indian Penal Code and section 123 1 of Representation of the
People Act," Sori told IANS by phone. He
said that the police would probe the case and take appropriate
action soon.Karma, a former
minister, is Leader of Opposition in the outgoing state
assembly. He is seeking re-election from Dantewada seat and hoping to
make it a hat-trick from one of the most insurgency-hit seats in the state. Meanwhile, Karma said he was "paying
money to persons hired for
banners and posters for election work, not for votes as claimed in the media". The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party
BJP has refused to
comment on the matter, saying it was "studying the issue". But Manish Kunjam, a senior Communist Party of
India state-
